Glow Yellow
FORMAL PROCESS OF AN ARTWORK
of Alex Padovan
In this work I focused on the formal process of a work of art.
I was inspired by a visit to an exhibition of contemporary jewelry.
The work is based on the thinking behind the work of jewelry or a work of art in general, on the intention of the artist who creates it.
If I try to imagine the artist's thought during the making of a jewel or a work of art, I see three important steps:
1. the idea that you have in mind is difficult to achieve at a time, therefore, at the beginning there is a sort of sketch made of small opening words that form the basis of the work;
2. the work begins to bear fruit, but the result is not what you wanted. This is the most difficult stage to overcome because the artist must improvising to make a complete performance, improvising stand out the news and the work light points but being poorly controlled because it was given to instinct, the forms remain ill-defined. This brings the artist to stop almost or rather distance themselves from the work to let her talk to herself, here begins the third and final phase;
3. the artist includes the work lights and begins to manifest serenity, is thus able simply to touch up the points poorly defined and to "erase" the dark shadows of the jewel.
In the song I wanted to recreate through the sampling of my voice a kind of organ that remember the liturgical singing of 500' in order to lull the jewel as it was exhibited in a medieval church. Then thinking of contemporary jewelry making I wanted to include sound signals constructed with a special digital synth I built the computer, the results are electronic sounds that remind me of the diamond cut by machines.
Finally I tried to bring out the line and the construction materials of the jewelry through a slideguitar, which allowed me to recall the precise moments and cared for the artist is manually done during the composition of these jewels.
The entire Glow Yellow work was started in May 2015 and ended in February 2016.
I used the technique of stop-motion with a moving camera, a technique that I have improved on the field.
