Conflict of Interest
Conflict of Interest takes us through the journey of two ex-servicemen who reunite and test each other’s moral compass. They both served together and were complicit in a cover up. They both possess knowledge of an unforgivable war crime. One can deal with this terrible secret, one cannot. One wants it swept under the carpet the other wants to to tell the world what happened. Can these old army friends find a middle ground? How will they settle this amicably, if at all?

Six in Twelve is a unique project with a very simple set of rules:
The rules were simple:
Two days
Two actors
One location
No script
Starting with a theme the actors and I devised the film on the first day. On the second day we joined the crew on location to create the film.
I developed the theme for Conflict of Interest having listened to the sometimes amusing but often harrowing stories of a friend who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. For the character of Luke I relied heavily on certain common elements of PTSD my father recognises from his work as a psychiatrist helping veterans.
A scene which particularly inspired me was from David Lynch's film The Straight Story where the main character Alvin recounts a war story which has haunted him his whole life.
During the devising process Steel and Nathanael, the two actors, created the characters of Luke and Jim and built the story into a gripping drama with an explosive ending.
Steel and I are the creative partners behind Six in Twelve. Old friends from drama school we were re-united some years later after a chance encounter at The Stockpot in Soho. We decided to make films together. We shot the award winning short film Ginger and the award winning internet comedy series Christie before embarking on Six in Twelve.
In Six in Twelve we have found an effective way of making films which gives actors the freedom to express themselves in a truthful way. The intention has always been to create very naturalistic films; to reproduce slices of life. Filming with two cameras allows the audience to see both sides of the conversation; what is said and the instinctive and natural response to that.
Over the past twelve months the way we work has brought us a lot of attention. Great talent from both sides of the camera have approached us wanting to be part of the Six in Twelve film project.
As we work together more with this unique way of finding plots and harnessing performances, our plan is to develop and shoot a feature film using the techniques we have developed over the past months.
