Director Statement

People tend to consistently ask me, what I consider myself, and the first thing I honestly say is that I’m a storyteller. I absolutely try to avoid labels, and placing myself in a category in this business, though I do indeed direct, produce, edit and write, I wouldn’t say that any one of those positions proclaim my style.

I can’t that say I have one defining style, but others have described my visual style with a focus on drama and psychological genres. At the end of the day, I won’t say that I have a distinct style, as I feel I am still trying to figure that out as time progresses, but I will say that I am becoming more familiar with things I enjoy creating, and for now, I just see myself as a developing cinematic storyteller.

I know this may sound slightly odd, but I have no intention of being remembered for anything. I rather my work become a memory on its own terms. Of course it would be nice if I am remembered for my redemptive work, my cinematic achievement that reflect social issues and concerns to explore social change, and create awareness, but when it’s all said and done, my priority is not for one to remember me, or what I contributed, but I desire my work to actually become a living memory, to speak for itself, to aspire change in a society of now’s.

I want my work to be a memory on its very own; walk on its own, talk on its own, and live on its own, and if my name is forgotten along my work, I am completely fine with that, as long as I know that I gave my work to society. I can only hope my work becomes a change instead of a form of remembrance. I hope that makes sense.
