jonni phillips is a genderfluid filmmaker and cartoonist, born in torrance california in 1997. jonni was really into newspaper comic strips and bad christian cgi cartoons for the first 9 years of life, and then got really into making lego movies when they were 10. 9 years later and jonni is making films at the california institute of the arts in the experimental animation program, and directing a cartoon pilot at frederator studios/sony pictures animation. jonni still doesn't have a vimeo staff pick but maybe someday
this project started out with me trying to convey a vague uneasy feeling ive had for my entire life through a surrealist narrative.. its evolved and changed a lot since then but i think the heart of that is still there
i made most of the film by drawing the characters digitally for each frame, printing each frame out, cutting out each frame and putting the shot together on a multiplane… any shot with the stop motion puppet had to be put together on a stop motion stage…
it was a lot of work, and i hope you enjoy it
