Josh graduated from Norwich University of Arts with a degree in Film and Moving Image Production in 2014. Currently, he teaches TV & Film and Video Games Design at East Norfolk College. His past work includes the Alan Partridge Movie, FXHome, Lambda Films, Mustard TV and Talkback Thames for ITV.
Aside from being a filmmaker, my other source of income is teaching film-production part time at a sixth form near Great Yarmouth. The idea of Above the Fold came to me during the time of 2015 general election. This was the first year I had voted and I know a lot of my students were voting for the first time too. There were stories over the press regarding the government, the different parties and various politicians all of which gave a very confusing and skewed tale of the ordeal. I am not somebody who claims to have a strong grasp on the politics of this country so when the students were frustrated with what they were seeing and hearing in the press they had a lot of questions. Questions I did not have the answer too. This irritation of having a lack of answers led to me having the idea for Above the Fold and step-by-step it became the film it is today.
We originally set out cast actors from London but due to budget constraints we ended up using an entire cast and crew all from Norfolk. Having lived here all my life I knew I wanted to use and film Norwich in a cinematic way that has not been done before. John Mangan is a filmmaker in his own right and has supported the project throughout. Martin Ballantyne who plays the silent killer has appeared in The Dark Knight, so I knew I had a challenge directing somebody who had previously worked with Christopher Nolan but I think it was a success!
