Oliver Cox is an East London-based filmmaker and co-founder of the multi award-winning production company 49 To Midnight Films. A neurodivergent storyteller with a love for the unconventional, Oliver is drawn to character-driven narratives that linger long after the credits roll. His work often leans into the unexpected and offbeat, embracing bold storytelling choices that challenge traditional form and audience expectations.
By the age of 10, armed with a webcam, Windows Movie Maker, and whatever props he could find at home, Oliver began his film making journey. With limited tools and no formal training, Oliver learned to solve problems creatively—an approach that continues to shape his filmmaking. That early, improvisational spirit taught him to value story and character above all else, often using constraints as a source of innovation rather than limitation.
aside from countless short films, commercials and music promo’s, Oliver has directed and produced two feature films: Lure, a psychological thriller exploring the darker side of modern courtship, and 49 Miles More, a light hearted comedy about friendship and male vulnerability. He also directed the documentary series Sparked by Beau Black, featuring Jack Whitehall, Boy George, and James Bourne (Busted). In addition to this, Oliver collaborates annually with East 15 Drama School as an industry professional, helping students to hone their screen acting skills through a series of short film projects.
With an ever expanding portfolio, Oliver continues to push boundaries in British indie cinema—crafting stories that surprise, provoke and stay with their audiences.
"friendship is a journey"
It’s a phrase we’ve all heard before — and in 49 Miles More, we take that idea and run with it. Literally.
This isn’t just a comedy about two mates walking an unreasonably long way. At its heart, it’s about the weird, messy, brilliant nature of friendship. How it changes over time, how we deal with life not turning out the way we planned, and how sometimes, the only thing that gets us through is having someone next to us who just… gets it.
49 Miles More is our love letter to the kinds of friendships that last — the ones that go through rough patches, dodgy detours, and still hold strong. Max and Doug’s journey is full of chaos, dumb decisions, and unexpected moments of clarity, but underneath it all, it’s about how growing up doesn’t have to mean growing apart.
