Elixir
By 2115, the world has been plagued by severe environmental disasters, civil unrest, anarchy and governmental collapse, and pure chaos. Society no longer has easy access to the basic needs of survival, and everyday is a fight to survive. Elixir chronicles the adventures and struggles of a group of three skilled individuals as they traverse the Northeastern United States in search of the new mega-dam, Elixir, built by the water-controlling and ruthless Mulholland Corporation. Without technology or basic necessities, including water, to aid them our group must overcome extreme obstacles including disease, injury, internal moral dilemmas, and Skulks, the mercenary "peace-keeping" militia working for the Mulholland Corporation.

Matthew Lipke, born Matthew Robert Lipke, has always been attracted the magic of the cinema. Ever since watching Spielberg's Jurassic Park, Matt has been mesmerized by films. Matt began editing short videos of events around his hometown, including the home-haunt haunted houses he would design and run at his parents house with friends during Halloween. Filming and editing short films for a few high school media classes gained him some exposure with the basics of cameras and the editing suite Adobe Premiere Pro. He continued to write and film silly horror parodies in grade school with friends and cousins...basically anyone who would say yes to his crazy endeavors!
Then during the summer of 2012, Matt's filmmaking career took a turn. Just graduating from high school he and his close group of friends decided to produce a feature-length found footage horror film based on a local legend in their town. Starting off as just a fun summer project, the film, Whiskey Hollow, ended up throwing Matt and his friends into the crazy world of filmmaking! The 94-minute horror film premiered at a local theater in Syracuse, NY to a crowd of nearly 300 people. Following Whiskey Hollow, Matt and his team decided to write and produce a second feature film while attending different colleges. A Demon In My View (2013), was Matt's and his company's, Lipke Productions, first serious attempt at a feature film. With a cast composed of students and theater actors from all over Central New York, Matt and his team produced this 169-minute horror film inspired by the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe. A Demon In My View premiered at a theater in Syracuse in 2013.
While Matt continued to pursue his undergraduate degree in environmental sciences at The University of Vermont, he also continued producing numerous short films with peers and friends within and outside of the film department. During his senior year at UVM, Matt wrote, produced, directed, and edited his third feature film entitled Elixir. Elixir was produced as part of Matt's senior capstone project, producing a film in lieu of taking classes. Matt and his talented cast and crew from all over the state of Vermont produced this 104 minute science fiction action film with an environmental edge, combing both of his passions for the environment and filmmaking. Elixir premiered May 1st, 2015 at Merill's Roxy Cinemas to two sold-out crowds! With the success of the premiere, the theater ran Elixir for an additional week with four showtimes a day.
Matt now resides in Brooklyn, NY continuing to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He hopes to gain enough experience and enough of a name to bring his independent production company, Lipke Productions, to the front of the pack. Matt plans to continue producing films with important social, political, and environmental messages while maintaining the fun and the thrill of movies that drew him to the industry when we has a little boy.
My goal with this movie has always been to show the world what a bunch of students from UVM in little old Vermont can really do. The success of Elixir has shown people that not only do you not have to be a film student to pursue a career in filmmaking, but that when a bunch of talented, dedicated students and local actors get together, they can create a piece of cinema worthy of the silver screen. We had no funding for this film other than what was in our pockets at the time yet we created a successful feature-length film that has been shown in theaters.
Elixir also displays the significance of of our most precious resource...water. Without it we are nothing. Water is the key, is the elixir of life. It is something we must not take for granted. My hope is that when people watch this film they start thinking about the issues surrounding water availability, privatization, and global climate change. We are not here to preach or to tell you what to do but instead we are here to start a discuss about these important problems facing our world today while hopefully entertaining at the same time!
Our hope now with Elixir is to show the world our film, entertain people, and to provoke an important and necessary discuss on water as we head into the future.
