Director Biography - Ruxandra Bratfalean-Igna

I've been working on film, music video, and commercial productions for over six years. I was lucky to gain experience in directing, writing, acting, editing, set design and producing from various places inside, and outside of Romania. I love working with large groups, creating complex realities, and bringing everyone’s ideas to life under one common vision.

During my final year on the (BA) Film Practice course at UAL, I was elected for the second time as president of the Drama Society, and directed an original play involving over 30 students from all around the world. The play was performed at the Rudolf Steiner House on Baker Street.

I am passionate about all forms of art and performance; I've played the piano ever since I was six years old, studied ballet for several years, was part of a band throughout high school, and cultivated my love for acting in various forms over the years.

I have recently started teaching A-Level Media Studies through an online school founded in my home town. I have previous experience in caring for children of different ages, doing therapy through art and organising various activities in nature. I have coordinated events and day camps for kids (6-13y/o) for the past few years, and have held acting and film workshops in Cluj-Napoca for teenagers and adults. In 2023 I started an MA in the history of ideas and images, and set the foundations for a creative hub called "ZONA", that I hope to cultivate alongside my friends here in Cluj.

Director Statement

With the production of this short film, the director reflects on her experience by blending personal memory with a unique style created by the combined efforts of the entire team. The universal topics of death and love are presented in a realistic, local setting, bringing the intensity of the events close to the audience.
The film also shows a different side to the social issue of car crash deaths in Romania. Seeing the group of friends go through grief, focuses the audience's attention on the consequences of careless driving, and the high risk of young people losing their lives in such accidents.
The real events behind this story are close to the director's heart, and have proven to reflect the experience of many other young adults in Romania.
