NOMINATED for BEST NARRATIVE SHORT
Kristine Gerolaga is a Bay Area born and raised, band geek/ color guardist for life, and ex-professional monkey feeder. After graduating from UC Davis with a B.A. in Sociology and being let go from her life-changing job as a residential counselor for at-risk youth, Kristine decided to finally become an actor turned dirActor with a dream of telling moving stories featuring complex three-dimensional characters. She co-wrote and starred in the short film DISCONNECTION, which won Best Dramatic Short at the 2012 DIY Film Festival in Hollywood, won Best Editing as well as earned an Honorable Mention for Best Dramatic Short for the 2013 winter quarter at the Asians On Film Festival in Los Angeles, and has made its national television debut as a part of NUVOtv's inaugural Nu Point of View: The Emerging Latino Filmmaker's showcase in March of 2014. Her directorial debut, A PERIOD DRAMA (which she also wrote and stars in), was an official selection and just had its world premiere at Dances With Films in May 2015!
I made A Period Drama because my acting teacher challenged our class to create our own doors, and because I'm a woman and a person of color, I often find that my opportunities are more limited than those of a different identity (even though the odds are against all of us in the business). So, this is my directorial debut! It was very important to me to do something that featured as much diversity as possible (the film is mainly cast out of my acting class)! The concept used to be as simple as a comedy about a woman and her personified period who beat her up throughout the week, but as we continued to develop the story and project, I realized that it was missing a heart and a message. I now hope that message is loud and clear and that you enjoy it. Thank you for your consideration!
