Director Biography - Izzy Lee

"Izzy Lee, a sometimes festival programmer and sometimes film reviewer, has directed a series of spooky tales that feel like " modern Tales from the Crypt stories where unlikeable people get what's coming to them." -Rue Morgue

Izzy Lee is former a film festival programmer of both the Boston Underground Film Festival and Boston Science Fiction Film Festival. She sometimes writes for Rue Morgue, Diabolique, TwitchFilm, and Fangoria.

When she’s not writing, she’s making scary little films, often from an outsider perspective. Her films aren’t usually just frightening, they’re strange, well-made tales that often have a socio-political bent.

Her films have screened with well-known new and old genre films American Psycho, Tales of Halloween, The Sacrament, The Lords of Salem, They Look Like People, Excess Flesh, and Antibirth.

Director Statement

"Seriously creepy and disturbing." - Joe R. Lansdale

"Great job!!! Loved everything about it." - Christopher Golden

"Disturbing and nightmarish; there's a great atmosphere of filth and madness about it that reminds me a bit of Friedkin's Bug." - Axelle Carolyn

In Postpartum, I wanted to address the fact that not all pregnancies are happy experiences---with a monstrous twist.

Production Notes
"Horror Royalty"
I met Kasey Lansdale --- writer, country singer, and daughter of cult writer Joe R. Lansdale (BUBBA HO-TEP, COLD IN JULY) --- at a CHRISTMAS OF THE DEAD screening, and we hit it off. She said she was coming back to town, and wanted to work with me, so my co-writer and I whipped up something weird. Initially, it was supposed to have been an absurdist script, but it turned very dark when I opened up the deep corners of my brain. We had a great time, she's fantastic in the film, and I can’t wait to work with her again.
