Director Biography - Kaveh Mazaheri

Born 1981 in Tehran, Iran. An interest in cinema led Mazaheri to begin writing film criticism for Iranian magazines after graduating from college in 2004. His first short film, Tweezers (2007), was censored in Iran. To date, he has made three independent short films and more than twenty short and long documentaries for broadcasts. He is the editor and author of a great many projects aside from his own. Some of the films he has directed include Soori’s Trip (Doumentary, 2009) and Cockroach (Fiction Short, 2015).
His documentary “A REPORT ABOUT MINA” was official selection of many international film festivals around the world, and won “Special Mention Prize” from Yamagata Documentary Film Festival (Japan 2015), award “Best Film Expressionist Narrative” from Black International Cinema Berlin (Germany 2015) for this film.
His last short film “Retouch” which became a very successful movie. In its first international premiere, “Retouch” was able to win the Best Narrative Short award at the Tribeca 2017, opening the path to be considered for the Academy Awards 2018. Following, “Retouch” was twice more eligible for qualification at the Academy Awards 2018, following wins for Best Short Fiction category at the Krakow Film festival and Palm Springs Shortfest. Garnering more than 60 important international film awards at 170 international film festivals, “Retouch” is the most successful Iranian short movie ever made. For this reason, many of these international awards are being kept and showcased at the special “Retouch” booth at the Iranian Cinema Museum.
