1521. City under siege

During the French siege of Logroño, in June 1521, a foreign emissary, sent by Emperor Charles I, and a local constable, on loan from the city, must investigate several deaths in strange circumstances while carrying out a documentation mission on the Camino de Santiago.
A perverse murderer has initiated an esoteric and ruthless ritual of crimes that is spreading panic among the population. But the "investigators" end up dying at the hands of the murderer, who manages to have the investigator considered the culprit, and the case is hidden.
500 years later, a German journalist, a descendant of the investigator, and her cameraman from Logroño, while reporting on the centenary of the Siege, find documents about those crimes, and others repeated on the same date for 499 years.
They face a race against time to prevent new murders in 2021 and rehabilitate her ancestor.

Writer Biography - Álvaro Ochoa

Álvaro Fernández Ochoa, known as Álvaro Ochoa, was born in Logroño in 1971. He has been dedicated to storytelling since he was very young, writing short stories, theater, novels and screenplays.
He made his first short film at school, winning first prize in the contest organized during the school's festivities.
He continues writing, drawing and studying. Finished his degree in Art History in 1994.
He began his career in the theater joining En agua de borrajas and Teatro Pobre in 1994.
In 1998 he created with two other partners the entertainment company Tres Tristes Tigres SC, and in 2005 he founded Uno0 SC, a film production company.
After many fiction, advertising and audiovisual projects, Álvaro founded Cinebrand SLU in July 2022, another production company focused on film, series, TV and advertising. He also combines his professional and social interests, creating the Logroño-La RIoja FIlm Commission Association in 2007, and a sociocultural management brand called Grounded Kulture in 2022.

Writer Statement

I am Álvaro Ochoa, writer, producer and director of scripts for different audiovisual formats. I am passionate about telling stories that reflect the social, political and cultural reality of our time, with a touch of humor, irony and criticism.

I write because I believe it is a way to express my vision of the world, to question the established, to denounce injustices and to propose alternatives. My texts deal with themes such as identity, power, violence, love, friendship, art and communication.

Some of the authors I most admire and who have influenced my writing are Martin Scorsesse, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino, Ridley Scott, Steven Soderbergh, Jorge Luis Borges and Arturo Ripstein.

I am currently working on the script of a fiction series that narrates the adventures of a couple of journalists who, while reporting on the centenary of a local event, are forced to investigate an ancient and strange case of serial murders committed over 500 years in a small provincial town. With this project I want to show the importance of journalism as a tool for social transformation and the complexity of professional ethics.

I consider myself a writer committed to my time, to my audience and to myself. My goal is to create texts that entertain, inform and excite viewers or readers, that make them think and feel, that open their minds and hearts. I want to keep learning, improving and growing as a writer and as a person.
