Miss Verity
On the plains of the Crimea outside the fort of Sebastopol, the British Army is dying. Not from Russian cannons or bayonets, but from disease. Travelling with the wretched troops is William Howard Russell, special correspondent for The Times. In this biographical drama, William Russell defies the British government and General Staff in his mission to enlighten the British public to the realities of war, and the true nature of the tragic circumstances that have befallen the sons and husbands of England.

Callum is an aspiring screenwriter specialising in historical scripts, having graduated with a degree in history from the University of Exeter. Between 2013 and 2016 he worked with the university's theatre group writing shows for the Edinburgh Festival. Since graduating Callum's writing has been praised by the director of an Emmy award winning production company, and has worked to create new scripts with an award winning script consultant. 'Miss Verity' is his second feature length screenplay after 'Dark Forces', a thriller about MI6 and the murder of Rasputin.
In an era of conflicting stories and 'Fake News', 'Miss Verity' addresses the concept of truth and the conflict attached with conveying the truth to the public. William Howard Russell is widely acknowledged as the first modern war correspondent for his crusade to tell the truth of the Crimean War to the British public, despite the obstructions placed before him by the government and the senior military staff. It is a story that is largely unknown, yet is remarkably apt in today's frantic and bewildering world of information.
