James Beaman is an award winning actor and master theatre teacher. His feature screenplay, "The Girl in Green," tells the true story of the infamous Helen Jewett Murder in 1830s New York. He has also written a short inspired by the same story, entitled "In Helen's Room." His latest short film script, "T," explores the shadow life of an older gay man becoming hooked on crystal meth and sex, and is 3rd Place Winner in the 2018 Big Apple Film Festival Short Screenplay Competition. Beaman's 10 minute Zoom play, "Love and Art" was presented this year by American Actors UK, and is being developed into a feature.
I discovered the lurid story of the Helen Jewett murder, and the infamous trial of Richard P. Robinson, while working at the Museum of Sex in New York City. A young sociopath. A miscarriage of justice perpetrated by a corrupt patriarchy. A tabloid press whipping the public into a violent frenzy. An alluring female victim both eroticized and demonized. It's a tale as potent today as it was in 1836.
