Brushing Teeth

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” – Gautama Buddha.
People always make all types of associations in their heads, no matter if they are logical or not, but if one believes them, they become very real and material. The film "Brushing Teeth" tells a story about a young man and his typical morning teeth brushing. It is a glimpse in to his subconscious mind, his train of thought during this process. The main character of this film starts thinking about the simplest things while brushing his teeth, but very quickly he comes across more complex thoughts, which lead the protagonist to act (or think) more drastically. The film raises a question - which is the true reality? Is it the one that we can physically touch, smell and taste? Or is the one that only exists in each of our minds, every single one different and very weird?

Director Statement

The beginning of the idea for this movie was a couple of years ago – I wanted to make a short documentary about the different morning rituals people have, especially how they brush their teeth. Later this concept changed and transformed into a fiction film about a single persons teeth brushing. I wanted to make this movie because it let me dive in to human thinking patterns, things like train of thought and making subconsious connections between unrelated things. The film tries to show how we never really do anything fully, our minds are often wandering somewhere far away and we never truly stay in the moment.
