Director Statement

A Place of Happiness is an African original story of love and romance, of reality and fantasy. Aduniyi, a young man in his early thirties caught between two worlds and has to make a choice between reality and fantasy.
It is a story that can make us cry, laugh, love and scream, because we see reflections of our life in this film.

It is a romantic melodrama sets in colonial era of Nigeria and where medicare was virtually absent in most rural communities. It is a story that dwells on a mental disorder and how it was perceived in that era.
Aduniyi has a problem as he could not differentiate the real world from the abstract and he gets entangled in a love affair that will make him to seek freedom to be with his new love interest.
Theme in this film centers on love and mental health, it also dwells in a subtle way on discrimination against people with such challenges.
The performances of the actors will be more on mood and facial expression as the film is with less dialogue but more emotion driven.
By shooting with a canon C300, we intend to make this film to have a cinematic feel and look that is pleasant to the eyes. A rare editing style will be adopted, as we will focus more on the protagonist as he tackles the challenges his condition has laid on him.
As for the sound design, mood sound and emotional sound will be employed to drive home the story. Being a move set in the yesteryears, we will employ more of drums and little flutes and other instruments to drive home the point we are trying to make with this film.
