‘Raja Ravi Varma – The Father of Modern Indian Art’ is a documentary film that travels through the professional and personal life of the world renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma. The world hardly has any idea about the hardships and adversities the painter faced in his life in order to become what he is today in realm of art. The film portrays how Raja Ravi Varma brought in a cultural synthesis among diversity in India. The main events of Ravi Varma’s life are re-enacted for the emotional equivalents.

Director Biography - Venu Nair

International award winning film maker Venu Nair is based at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala did his postgraduate degree at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. He has received training in film making at the Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.

He is active in the field of television and film media since 1990 and his creations number around 100 covering a wide spectrum ranging themes such as Environment, Culture & Heritage, Anthropology, Health, Tourism, Panchayti Raj, to name a few, and also fiction and music.

During his career in this field, he has won the coveted UN FAO - OSIRIS International Award for the film “Digging Mercy” at the Agrofilm 2010 Slovak Republic; International Recycling Fund Award at the 36th International Festival of Sustainable Development Films, Ekotopfilm 2009 in Slovak Republic for the film “Farming Our Future”; Nominated for the Delphic Art Movie Award 2011 at Berlin, Germany for the film “The Mythology of Aranmula Metal Mirror”, Kerala State Television Award for the Best Director and Producer for the Science and Environment documentary “Farming Our Future” in the year 2009 instituted by Kerala Chalachitra Academy, Government of Kerala; National Award for the Best Tourism Film for the documentary “The Mythology of Aranmula Metal Mirror”, for the year 2006-07 from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; as well as 4 State Awards. His mini series “Sethuvinte Kathakal” was an acclaimed work and received many awards.
