King of Blades

Makoto Yamasaki's father, Yoshihiro, is a champion in the gladiatorial virtual reality (GladiViR) sporting event, Children of the Earth—its King of Blades, as the title would have it. Unfortunately, on the night after his latest win, the train he rides home crashes, leaving him paralyzed. Makoto thus aims to compete in the competition herself, blaming herself for her father's injury and determined to prove her self-worth. After many years of training, she successfully enters, but standing in her way of the championship is the current King of Blades, Joshua Strada, who had once fought Yoshihiro and lost. Furthermore, over the years, she has become increasingly cold and distant, even to friends and family, to the point where she may even risk her own life to get by on her own. In order to win the competition, she must accept their support and find a way to overcome her opponents—and herself.
