Whose City?
Whose City? is a film about the transformation of Berlin from the somewhat run-down and neglected, but highly dynamic and flexible city of the 1990s to today’s ever-more chic and exclusive city. Many documentaries have in recent years been made on this issue, but where most of these follow the money and dissect the power relations of today’s urban planning, Whose City? moves back in time to the almost forgotten, but defining architectural disputes of the 1990s. With the fall of the Wall and the rest of the Eastern Bloc in 1989/1990, leading politicians and urban planners in Berlin became obsessed with aesthetic and national concerns, and this helped pave the way for the ongoing neoliberal take-over of the city, since the fundamental question was no longer asked: Who are we building for?
The film represents a meditative journey through Berlin, from the West to the East, and from the male-dominated conservative urban planning of the early 1990s to the more open-minded urban planning of today. Finally, the film constitutes a journey into the complexity and richness of urban planning. The arguments and viewpoints that have characterized the planning disputes since the early 1990s are listed one after the other, thereby gradually revealing the things that should be considered, if we are to have a city for all.
The film ends in a happy mode, but the question remains, if Berlin will overcome the old and new divisions and become a city for all.

Hans Christian Post - Post Behrens ProduktionCountry: DenmarkRights: All Rights
Hans Christian Post has since 2000 worked on-off in the documentary field. First as a research assistant for Ove Nyholm during the production of the award winning film, "Anatomy of Evil". Later, from 2005 till 2007, as researcher, assistant writer and production leader for the German company, WTS-Mixed Media, who in that period produced documentaries for 3sat and arte.
Since 2014, he has worked independently as film maker and producer. In 2015, he finished his first documentary, "Last Exit Alexanderplatz", which was followed by "Whose City?" in 2017, "We Are Here" in 2019 and "Where to With History?" in 2020.
In addition, he teaches different courses at the Department for the study of Culture at the University of Southern Denmark.
He holds a master’s degree and a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen. His primary field of research is cultural and urban memory. With Dresden and Berlin as primary cases, he has written extensively on the intertwining of city planning, building preservation, memory, and history politics.
I am interested in exploring how the cultural sciences can merge with the documentary film genre and produce something that combines scientific research, research dissemination and entertainment, and in this way allows for the cultural sciences to reach larger audiences and have greater impact than is currently the case.
