Stage Mums
Shaz and Trace are besties with super talented quadruple threat teenage daughters, Shenaya and Abcde. They are Aussie Stage Mums who tackle all the important issues: pretentious kids, obnoxious parents, eisteddfods, social media, dodgy castings and Sav Blanc. In a world full of wannabes, where everyone wants to be famous, these Mums will go to any lengths to give their daughters opportunities to showcase their ‘amazing talents’, most of which don’t work out exactly as planned. Their plans are constantly thwarted by their arch nemesis Amanda Kingsford-Smythe and her spoilt daughter Penelope Elizabeth.

Louise Alston
I’m a director, living and working between Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia.
Lately I’ve been directing TV including beloved Australian drama, Neighbours and comedy series, Beige Brown. I’ve also been writing and developing screenplays and TV series.
My first feature, All My Friends are Leaving Brisbane (2007) won audience awards at the Natfilm festival Copenhagen and London Australian Film Festival. It was nominated for an AFI for best adapted screenplay in 2008.
Final clap on All My Friends are Leaving Brisbane
“Infectiously sweet and charming movie.” – Marc Fennell, Triple J
“Stock up on corn chips and tequila slammers”- Rosalie Higson, The Australian
My second feature, Jucy (2010) is a “womantic comedy” inspired by the real life friendship of it’s two lead actors. Jucy world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2010. It went on to festival success including screening at the Seattle International Film Festival and the International Women’s Film Festival in Seoul Korea where it won the ITeen award. It was released in Australia and the USA in late 2011.
“Colorfully stylized, sweet and silly, yet encompassing some serious issues, frisky low-budget laffer “Jucy,” from Australian helmer Louise Alston (“All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane”), transforms the chick pic into womance.” – Alissa Simon, Variety
Jucy on the cover of the Hollywood Reporter Daily
“This is a bright, sassy feel good film, and sure to become a sleepover classic for the middle school set.“ shedoesthecity.com
My short films include Photocopier which screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival 2013 and Humidity Rising, which won the Queensland New Filmmakers Awards best independent film 2007.
In the early 2000′s I created and produced comedy series, Variety Show, at the End of the World and documentary series, Brilliant Lives, both on Foxtel channels.
I have also worked extensively in theatre including directing, Sidekicks, in critically acclaimed seasons in Sydney at the Old 505 Theatre 2012, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2013.
I’m a graduate of the Australian national film school, AFTRS and the UCLA screenwriting professional programme. I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Technology in Sydney. My thesis is about femmes fatal in neo noir film!
Stage Mums is all heart. Making it was more fun than a regional eisteddfod championship win. With more team work than a gold medal team tap routine. At its heart is the love (dreams, wishes, ambitions and disappointments) between Mums and daughters and between women friends. I enjoyed a fabulous creative team and all the colour and vibrancy of Gold Coast locations. Stage Mums is comedy in the glamorous underbelly of show biz.
