Born in 1995, Rafael Alejandro López is a Swiss-Venezuelan visual artist.
His work as a filmmaker illustrates conceptually contemporary issues and feelings often taking place in a oneiric universe. In June 2017 he received the honorable mention at the "Underground Film Forum" in Los Angeles and later on was officially nominated for the "Lift-Off Season Awards 2017" taking place at Pinewood Studios in London, for his short film "Sisyphus."
The film does not only focus experimentally and conceptually on the abusive sharing of pictures on social media but also focuses on the control lose over these same pictures once they are online.
The character we are following does not have a name nor a specific background. He is the representation of a society ruled by appearances and the image we want to give to the world. As a matter of fact he is fully conscious of being watched when in his motel room, but on the other hand, he completely ignores the presence of the camera when he wakes up in the forest. He then becomes the camera and viewer’s prey, having to follow wherever the camera decides to drag him.
The forest is the representation of another state of mind: the subconscious. In this dimension he will face multiple versions of his inner self, every version is the representation of the loss of control over his own image.
The aspect of bringing this story to screen in the form of a «shot-in-one-take» short, is to force the feeling of an omnipresent eye, sneaking on the Man’s journey. The camera and therefore the viewers are guiding and forcing his fate in this dimension.
