MAD
During the monsoon season, a small-town widow travels to Mumbai on the anniversary of her husband’s death, to take part in customary Hindu prayers which are held in the mourning period. However the daughter arrives late and drunk and their journey begins, pauses, stops and starts again. The distance shrinks, the roles exchange, in the same moment… in the same space.
MAD explores the themes of migration, identity and womanhood in contemporary India through the choices and decisions taken by both mother and daughter.
MAD is available on Youtube on the reputed Large Short Films portal where it has received an overwhelmingly positive response. The short film was also nominated at the respected Film Critics Guild awards in India in the best director, best actress and best screenplay categories.

MAD has been selected as a short film winner at the Mumbai Film festival (MAMI), audience winner at Edinburgh Festival of indian Films & Documentaries, semi finalist at Filmshort film festival in London as well as being screened at the Los Angeles Lift-Off film festival.
MAD was written and created as I had wanted to explore themes of death & grieving as well as gender and migration within lower middle class communities from North India.
With the help of an incredible team, each with unique strengths and capabilities, MAD explores through the choices we take and the effects our choices have not only for ourselves but the people closest to us. As products of a society & country in rapid transition, both mother and daughter in MAD are forced to negotiate their position in society.
