12 And More Omissions
"Jordan Lisi's got some great ideas about structure here, which he's taken off and run with, hard--the result is this tough little jewel of indie cinema."
- Andrew Bujalski, writer/director of 'Computer Chess' (2013), Funny Ha Ha (2002), and more.
“This astonishing feature debut from first-time director, Jordan Lisi, asks all the right questions about what it means to be human. But even more surprising, is his refusal to give us simple answers. Instead, he challenges us to find our own meaning in the stories he so astutely portrays. In three very different situations— we understand how fiercely we all crave love and connection. And how tragically rare it is for people’s cravings to take place at the same time. The tragedy of missed moments is searing - especially when the promise of profound love seems so close. Sound complex? It is - but perhaps most surprising of all is the simplicity and elegance of the way Lisi spins his artful web."
- Pamela Katz, screenwriter of 'Hannah Arendt' (2012), Rosenstrasse (2003), and more
"This is an exceptional film I’ll be retuning to again and again."
- Peter Rinaldi, Filmmaker, Writer, and host of BACK TO ONE
"The film resembles a visual concept album, taking us back and forth between places and people as they find themselves meandering through life...it has some of the most gorgeous cinematography and sound mixing I've seen/heard in an indie film this decade...you will be seeing the first film in what is sure to be an illustrious career in filmmaking for Jordan Lisi."
- Aaron Bartuska, writer, Split Tooth Media
“Visually striking and beautifully shot…the dialogue felt really true to life and the soundtrack was great. Subtle tension building throughout that really hit me when the credits rolled.”
- Louisa Ballhaus, writer/author, features correspondent for BBC Culture
"[Lisi works] with multiple locations and dovetailing non-linear storylines in a way that feels at once fragmentary and cohesive…impressive how willing [Lisi is] to linger with scenes to evoke a feeling, without overdetermining where the threads are leading…The storylines are far-flung ostensibly disconnected from one another, but the film itself nevertheless feels quite personal and cohesive. As a first film, it's really quite an impressive feat to put together something so ambitious for a short film (that also succeeds so well)."
- Jonathon Foltz, author, The Novel after Film: Modernism and the Decline of Autonomy (Oxford University Press, 2018)
Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actresses, Best Cinematography, Sipontum Arthouse International Film Festival 2024
Best Director - Feature Film, Berlin Indie Film Festival
Soda's Peak Art presents '12 And More Omissions', three stories about distance in cherished relationships.
'12 And More Omissions' is a micro-feature film based on a collection of short stories and poems from writer/director Jordan Lisi. The film consists of three interwoven stories taking place across three distinct locations—New York City, Boston, and the Hudson Valley Region. Each location features unique characters dealing with conflict in their cherished relationships.
The film focuses on the quotidien moments in the day which build over time to form a life—the moments normally omitted from our social media posts and cocktail party speeches, moments which escape even our own introspection due to their constantly unresolved nature. The film features dynamic character ensembles each at different stages of young adulthood and is brought to life against vibrant Northeast U.S. backdrops.
Jordan Lisi is an independent filmmaker from and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, who studied film first under indie visionary writer/director/producer Shaun Seneviratne (now a producer on 12 And More Omissions) and then under the globally renowned, foremost living film theorist Dr. Ray Carney. Under the tutelage of these and other important mentors and through his own creative endeavors, Lisi has developed strong structural and creative ideas about the underlying, inherent power of art to break down barriers between people, shine light on human behavior, and ultimately forge a path to a better world. In addition to writing/directing, Lisi works as an assistant director, editor, and documentary workshop instructor in Brooklyn, New York.

Jordan Lisi is a Jewish filmmaker of German and Italian descent raised and currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He studied film theory and production at Boston University ('21, Latin Honors) and is a member of the Woodward Artist Residency in Ridgewood, New York.
Jordan has been writing and directing his own short films since 2015, including "A Grim Reaping" (2019) which won best film, audience favorite, best original screenplay, and best performance by a cast at the 2019 Commonwealth Film Festival in Boston, MA. He is pleased to announce his debut medium-length feature film '12 And More Omissions', a story about distance within cherished relationships told in three parts.
During the development of '12 And More Omissions', Jordan was fortunate to receive guidance from mentors Pamela Katz (Writer, “Hannah Arendt”), Shaun Seneviratne (Producer/Writer/Director, “Ben and Suzanne: A Reunion in Four Parts), Dr. Ray Carney (Author, Cassavetes on Cassavetes), Nicholas Ma (Producer, “Won't You Be My Neighbor?”) and many others who made significant contributions to the film and are reflected in the credits.
Jordan works as a freelance producer, assistant director, and editor in Brooklyn, New York. He has directed music videos for acclaimed jazz musicians Peter Cincotti and Natalia Clavier, assistant directed for independent film directors Jaclyn Bethany, Bradley Tangonan, Emilio Subia, Adi Jahic, and more, and has edited for Unilever, The Boston Celtics, Publicis Groupe, and more. Jordan also works as a teaching artist with a non-profit where he instructs documentary filmmaking workshops for public high school students across all five boroughs of NYC.
In his free time, you can find Jordan reading and writing fiction, watching movies at Metrograph or Anthology Film Archives, on the second floor of the Met, taking acting workshops with Adult Film NYC, painting, taking photos, and playing basketball (all at the same time).
'12 And More Omissions' is a passion project, micro-budget, “short feature film” I wrote in late 2022. Based on a collection of short stories I had been workshopping in prose since 2018, '12 And More Omissions' represents the culmination of a "poetic associative" writing and filmmaking style I have been experimenting with and developing since I first began writing and directing short films in 2015.
The stories in Omissions focus on the day-to-day moments in the lives of three distinct groups of characters at various stages of young adulthood, each dealing with alienation and distance in their most cherished relationships. Though the characters never cross paths physically, their stories intertwine structurally, bouncing off of each other or blending together to build a meta-narrative thematic thread that runs across the film, offering an honest look at the unexamined, the unexplained, and the uncomfortable dynamics in our most intimate relationships. Shot in in three different seasons in three separate locations across the Northeast region of the U.S., the stories are brought to life against vibrant, modern American backdrops.
I spent all of 2023 and every dollar I had bringing this film to life. It truly took a village and I am amazed and forever grateful to the incredible collaborators who joined me to make this film possible. I truly believe that the names in the credits of this film include some of the most talented emerging and established filmmakers and actors working. I am forever indebted to this incredible cast and crew, particularly my incredible producers Chris James, Anna Becker, and Shaun Seneviratne, without whom Omissions would be just a script. I am even more indebted to the community that came together to contribute to our crowdfunding effort and make Omissions possible.
In 2022, when I wrote this film and began considering it for development, I truly did not understand the immense challenges we would face in shooting such an ambitious film across three locations with no resources. I’ll never be able to make a film like this again and I still can’t really believe we pulled it off. I can look back and truly say I gave everything I had at the time—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, physically—to this project and watching it now makes me proud. I hope that viewers see themselves or someone they know on the screen, that they feel something, and that maybe they think about something in their own lives in a new way. I'm excited to show '12 And More Omissions' to the world.
