Experiencing Interruptions?

Video Archive '10 Days in May'

With collated video footages from the KBS archives, within South Korea, and overseas, <Video Archive “10 days in May”> attempts to present what happened during the May, 18 Democratization Movement. (a.k.a. Gwangju Democratization Uprising)

Previously unreleased footages (Inside the Jeonil Building on May 27 during the martial law army siege; Scenes from the Gwangju pro-democracy rallies, etc) are discovered and made public. This archive pieces them together with the situation logs in a chronological order of what and how things unfolded in Gwangju. Thus, it makes this an invaluable piece of documented history.

The format of the documentary is simple; laying out events in the chronological order of them taking place and showing what happened during the May 18 Democratization Movement from start to finish. To those already familiar with this painful past, it offers an opportunity to reflect. To the new generation that is unfamiliar, this documentary states truthfully and in a simple manner, what happened back in May of 1980.

Director Statement

This documentary has attempted to be as objective as possible by presenting facts through only video footages and situation logs, but the voices of students and citizens who participated in the resistance are enough to allow viewers to feel their burning passion for democracy, and the pain and suffering they experienced under the violent military siege.
