Griffin Davis is a photographer and filmmaker based in The eastern US. His pursuits include writing, directing, music videos, and managing national commercial campaigns.
Wes Salisbury is a first-time filmmaker from North Carolina with a passion for his cycling community and a knack for tackling chaos. Little did he know that 2020 would bring so much adversity but also such an amazing opportunity to film 0530!
It was early 2020 when Wes hit Griffin with the idea of doing a small doc. Griffin did not take him seriously. "I just kept thinking, so you want to make a doc about a bunch of road pirates. Good luck!"
CONCEPTION OF FILM
In the summer of 2018, Wes Salisbury was new to the 0530 group that Keith Vest had founded in 2001. One cold February morning in 2020, both Keith and Wes were training indoors with cycling coach Jon Hamblen. In between intervals, Wes asked Keith, “Have you ever thought of making a documentary on Team 0530?” to which Keith enthusiastically answered, “Yes!” That simple conversation was the birth of this film. Little did we know what 2020 had in store when we hung Griffin out the back of Wes’s pickup truck with his camera, nor the rich stories these eccentric pre-dawn cyclists had tucked in their jersey pockets, ready to share whenever asked. What was uncovered brought to light questions and answers regarding the importance of community regardless of the catalyst - that we all share a common core and humanity that all too often goes unnourished.
