My name is Aaron Moloney. I am a 19 year old director, screenwriter & all-round filmmaker based in Limerick, Ireland.
Throughout my life, film has made its way into different aspects of my childhood and teenage years. From filming toy soldier wars on my mother's Nokia 3230 at aged 8, to unwillingly acting at aged 15 as the protagonist of a transition year school film, badly.
Although film has been come and gone in my life, I only realised it was the career I wanted for life at aged 17, when I agreed to help create a poetry film for a friend. I developed a love for the lengthy writing and planning, as well as the stress and feeling of triumph after every little progress made. I was given the role of director, cinematographer and editor for the production.
That poetry film turned into a music video for a song entitled 'Double', which was highly praised by friends and family, as well as being a finalist in two film festivals across Ireland.
By comparing the overall praise to what we had access to on the shoot, I could clearly see that I have a skill that any good filmmaker has, and should have; to be able to make great art, regardless of the materials available to them.
All my life, I've always had one goal that I wanted to achieve, no matter the circumstances; to love what I do for living. I have experimented with different medias such as game development, story writing, photography, and music. Although game development did not find a place in my heart and has not carried on into later life, I have learned a lot from it.
I am a bit disappointed that I discovered my love for film at an older age than I would have hoped, but my determination to create and share stays strong. I will continue to put my heart and soul into every aspect of film I do, and this is evident in my works.
