Director Biography - Charlie Compton, Justin Landsman

Charlie Compton and Justin Landsman met as roommates and film students at Emerson College in Boston. Both grew up in New Jersey, having been immersed in horror for as long as they can remember. When meeting in college they knew immediately that they had to create something together. A month later, following a successful GoFundMe and crew-hiring campaign, they began production on The Five Fingers of a Dog. Some of their greatest filmic influences include Argento, Bava, Buñuel, Carpenter, Cronenberg, De Palma, Fulci, Hooper, and Romero.

Director Statement

"I don't know why anybody does anything, nobody really does. I suppose some people just like to drink blood." - Detective, The Five Fingers of a Dog

We are both lifetime lovers of everything horror. In order to breathe new life into the nearly bygone giallo sub-genre, we wanted to imbue it with a high level of authenticity while also pushing it forward in new and exciting ways. The Five Fingers of a Dog is not just a throwback film nor an attempt to "elevate" something that needs no elevating. We’ve infused giallo with new techniques as well as a sense of gothic, cosmic dread—reflective of the sub-genre's core, as well as an increasingly cruel and confusing world. We couldn't have gotten this made without the gracious support from everyone both inside and outside of the production, and we really hope you enjoy our piece of disreputable horror.
