Director Statement

The Driver is somewhat of a love letter to the 1980s and vintage cinema from that era. A short film and a journey through the painted streets of an east coast town in Great Britain. The town I have lived in all my life, Great Yarmouth, (Norfolk) is not very glamorous, however, by night the place really comes to life and represents a sort of poor man's vegas.

The bright lights of the town's golden mile juxtaposed with the industrial buildings and shapes create a natural contrast.

In keeping with the original feel from the 80's era, The driver has a vintage painted movie poster, lovingly hand-painted by artist, Kyle Ball. The Driver also has a stunning soundtrack to boot, courtesy of Airglow.

The Driver is man fixated by the drive, fixated by the bright lights and dark spaces. For him, the vehicle is not important, it's the thrill of being behind the wheel, flowing through the empty streets at a great pace, overshadowed by immense industrial structures. The day bores him, the night excites him, the exhilaration of driving during the night, time shackles him, as dawn draws ever near. The Driver is left waiting once more, for the night to return...
