Experiencing Interruptions?

Vigil

The film follows Grace and Eden, two childhood best friends who slowly drift apart as they grow older. After they are caught playing with tarot cards by the nuns, Eden comes up with a plan to retrieve them from the chapel, but Grace is hesitant.

Through flashbacks of Grace's memories, the reason for their strained relationship is slowly revealed. Grace eventually reluctantly agrees to Eden's plan. But once they are in the chapel, she backs out, starting a long overdue argument between them.

Director Statement

This film explores religion and sexuality, especially in girls' convents. Based on our own experiences in religious settings, we aim to delve into this widely unexplored topic.

Our aim is to explore religious homophobia and how it affects people to the point of internalising it. Having to hide such an important part of ourselves due to it conflicting with religious beliefs causes shame and paranoia. Living day-to-day with the fear that someone will find out and persecute you for an integral part of yourself is also an extremely distressing aspect.

By creating this film, we hope to shed some light on this topic which many people have not spoken up about. Alongside this, we hope to speak to people of different faiths and enlighten them on the intricacies of this issue.
