(in here) I Am God
In a remote war bunker a ruthless general exerts his will on a dedicated woman and an ambitious soldier.
This beautiful, devastating drama was inspired by writer, producer Nima Forghani's experience growing up in 1980’s Iran; a country shattered by the Islamic revolution and war with Iraq.

Joseph Seuferling is a Seattle-based director and cinematographer with a love of the odd and surreal. He has shot and directed many corporate, music and short videos. He lives in the dark woods with his psychic girlfriend and two strange cats.
As a creative kid growing up in rural America, I identified with the overt “otherness” of the creatures in monster movies and found freedom in creating my own versions and videos. In 2015, I met actor/producer Nima Forghani who had experienced some real life monsters in the form of the societal oppression of Iran in the 1980s, driving his need for both creativity and escape. (In here) I am God is both a distillation of those half-memories and imaginings, and a surreal exploration of control and oppression. Its face is that of a vampire.
As director and cinematographer, I wanted to use confinement as a backdrop to portray an onerous mixture of metaphors. From the green hue (at once fertile and nauseating), to the exaggerated red lips and fingernails of the woman, the military styling and the nightmarish “snapshots” of things forbidden, we see how fear and control impact both victim and oppressor. Perhaps it also sheds light into our own personal and collective versions of this—as freedom, in all its forms, may be a neck soon punctured by an awaiting fang.
