A punk Daydream
EN - Indonesia, the country I shed my blood to defend. Left to fend for themselves on the fringes of a society and family that have stigmatized them, Jakarta’s young punks speak up. The conflict of teen punk Eka with his parents is driven by an intense quest for individual freedom. Meanwhile, not so far away, at one with the land and embracing similar ideals are the local traditional tribes, who have found freedom in perfect tune with nature, but struggle to maintain their identity.

He taught film Studies and Mixed Media workshops at the Ghent Academy of Fine arts while being a guest lecturer at local university colleges in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
His short film SEMALU at an abandoned construction site with local kids in Malaysia, won several awards. In 2012 he landed in Indonesia and developed his ambitious project A punk Daydream, gaining the following of thousands of local punks online.
As a subject, Jimmy reflects on themes such as ecology, culture and politics, often through the eyes of youth and the oppressed. This is expressed in colorful portraits and stories of human characters.
The punks and the tribes have a lot in common, not only practically, as a source of inspiration for tattoos, but also as a way of life. To us, they are predermined to have a spiritual connection.
Stories of personal drama (broken homes) are intertwined with poetic sequences of landscapes and people. As a fusion between documentary, video art and photography, we want to tell an actual but universal story through audiovisual spectacle. Stylised, and driven by punk and traditional music we take the audience on a magical journey that gives a taste of a dark, apocalyptic future that hints a rethinking of societal structure in order to save humanity.
