Director Statement

I’ve always been drawn to black and white film, and the stylized nature of poetry coupled with visuals. Avant-garde films like PANG are something I think about every time I open Adobe Premiere and work on a project for a client. Though I make my money creating Digital Content for various brands, my True Self is expressed through my work as “Jamin Scotti” — an alias I use to separate my Professional work from my Artistic work.

Often exploring themes of dread, identity, and existentialism; my work attempts to provide a dreamlike experience through a collection of fractured images, the meaning of which I leave up to the viewer. I make films like PANG because the work I do for my clients as an Editor is always pristine, polished, and plastic. Broken narratives like PANG — films that you’d expect to see looping, projected on the blank wall of a museum — those are the films that really excite and allure me.

There are visuals presented in PANG which I’ve been hoping to put on film for the last decade; depicting everything from the exploration of my own Queer identity, to the isolations of living in The Digital Age. Pairing Emily's literary art with my own visionary elements has produced a thought-provoking, nightmarish experimental film which we are so excited to share with you. Working with Emily has been transformative for me as an Artist these past few years; her poetry is rich with The Truth; sometimes The Truth is troubling.

Thank you so much for supporting independent cinema, and artists like Emily and I.
