Director Statement

This is a black comedy of desire that continues to transform from one form to another throughout the story. It starts with intrigue that switches to lust and continues to slide until the true hidden intention of revenge is revealed.

The style I most employed in Tied Up is the element of surprise and this is presented at every turn to indicate a clear change in direction. As in magic, predictable outcomes are initially used to lure the audience into a false sense of familiarity that allows the misdirection that follows to be more effective.

So as the true intentions of the scene become clear to the male character, the audience whose guilty pleasures are being rewarded also gain knowledge of the plot, which is punish a deceitful man at the hands of his slighted women.

The mood is dark and sleazy with a playful complementary soundtrack. The scene is set in a small room with red ambient lighting that creates a confined environment and heightens the claustrophobic entrapment that is tied up.
