The film is based on an extract that was only a few lines in a book called DER SCHATTENFOTOGRAF by Wolfdietrich Schnurre. When I read the part I immediately decided that I want to make a short film about it. I was fascinated how the author managed to entertain me with so few sentences. And that’s also what appealed to me: to convert these few lines into 13 pages of script.
Ironically, while writing the script, I got into the hospital last year. I was hit by a drunken driver while standing on the sidewalk. I had a lot of time for research on location after that. For me, this film is about friendship. It’s about giving good prospects even in bad situations (In German the word for views and prospects is the same: Aussichten). People should always be willing to fight diseases and be optimistic. That’s what I wrote this story about. And I like punch lines. And airplanes.
