Director Statement

Directing, writing and producing this film was uniquely special to me because of the extremely personal connection to the story. As a woman who has faced shame, fear, and judgement for making choices about my body and health, I was motivated to create a story that shines light on the female issues of bodily autonomy, objectification and abortion. However, I knew in order to challenge conventional norms and perceptions of these issues, I would need to shift the lens to create a new view of an 'old story'.

Although this is my first time directing a film, I was able to transfer many of the skills that I had gained having worked as both a Drama teacher, and film actor. Being a first time film Director, navigating the complexities of a continuous shot, building our set inside an art studio, and running a production during 2020 in the peak of Covid19, I was presented with many challenges anew, not only to myself, but also to the film industry at large. Fortunately, I was surrounded by a wonderful team who were resilient and persistent, and we managed to complete the film despite lock-downs laws, venue restrictions and the ever-changing social conditions.
