《Where is the Pure Land》
In this family's private documentary spanning over 30 years, I witnessed a journey filled with complex emotions.
My grandmother fell into depression after my father's birth. In that era of China, those with mental illnesses received little sympathy. When I was just 4 years old, my grandmother chose to end her life, stating she didn't want to burden the family anymore. My father harbored deep hatred towards my grandmother, unable to forgive the pain her mental illness inflicted on his childhood. I, too, struggled to understand my father's depressive and irritable nature. We all sought ways to escape the grips of depression.
My grandmother chose suicide, and my father found solace in his art. Meanwhile, at the age of 30, I made the decision to become a monk.
I pondered, does Pure Land exist in this world? Where can it be found?
In my quest for inner peace, I sought answers to these questions. Pure Land, to me, is not merely a physical place but a state of mind. I hope to discover that Pure Land within myself, a sanctuary where my soul can find tranquility and serenity.
