The film is a collage of adopted sketches and notes by Caspar David Friedrich. In his drawings, the painter collects inspiration for his painting, which he finds in a landscape, a wide horizon, a ruin. He makes notes on the composition of the picture and on the ratios of light and size in order to reproduce his finds later as accurately as possible: Distance. Horizon. Man. These words could stem from a romantic haiku.
The musical improvisations, recorded by violinist Juliane Manyak, were created immediately while viewing the raw material for the film.
