We Rise (Music Video)

This project, "We Rise" is a unique amalgamation of work by artists based out of the United States and musicians in India coming together to put together a new song/video to raise awareness to the issue of Domestic Violence - a global collaboration for a truly but unfortunate global social epidemic.

The new single is sung in freshly composed lyrics in Bengali and Sanskrit by Somdatta

This YouTube Video features this new composition in a dance video features Indian Classical and Western Modern Classical Dance making this not just a video to raise awareness but to help raise our collective consciousness to this evil while ending with an inspiring call to rise up like the Phoenix Bird.

Director Biography - Gabriel Davila Luciano, Somdatta Pal

Somdatta is a singer and choreographer focused on using art to shed light on social causes and exploring global music. Her current endeavor ‘Mazi’ is a collection of songs from various languages around the world that helps her delve into a time these songs were sung and include Bosnian and Macedonian folk in addition to the music of the Indian Polymath Rabindranath Tagore while using her Indian classical dance training in Bharatnatyam from the Darpana Academy (Ahmedabad, India) to infuse Indian and other dance elements to choreography as a holistic expression of the performing arts.

Somdatta has performed with a number of artists such as Grammy award winning Flautist Ron Korb, Jazz Pianists Eli Yamin and Anil Veeraraj to name a few. She has performed the music of Rabindranath Tagore at a number of venues such as Princeton University and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in London, Berlin, The Hague, Budapest and Kolkata.

Her recent release "We Rise" is a unique original song and dance production to raise awareness of the societal epidemic - Domestic Violence. Sung in newly written verses in Bengali and Sanskrit, Somdatta worked with a talented group of dancers to choreograph this unique amalgamation using Indian Classical and Western Modern Dance elements to record this music video to raise our collective consciousness to this scourge of society

Somdatta is currently pursuing her master’s in Dance Movement Therapy at Rider University in the US and was declared the Andrew J. Rider Scholar for 2021-2022 and continues her interdisciplinary pursuit of the arts.

Gabriel Dávila-Luciano is an entrepreneur based in Round Hill, Virginia, and serves as adjunct professor for the Master of Arts in Music Entrepreneurship. He is founder and CEO of Dexios Design, a multimedia and marketing management company that provides branding and development for businesses. Luciano is passionate about entrepreneurship and understands the excitement and struggles of startups, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. As a musician, recording artist, and singer-songwriter, he has gone on to produce multiple musical albums, films, and plays throughout his career. His love for education has been the motivation behind his involvement with bilingual leadership events, aimed at empowering local artists looking to take their music careers to the next level. His dedication to social justice and filmmaking led him to partner with INOVA Human Trafficking Initiative in the development of a documentary focused on bringing awareness to the ongoing tragedy of human trafficking in the U.S. In addition, he is a member of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
