Director Biography - 伊地知 拓郎(Takuro Ijichi)

Born in Kagoshima, Japan.
In 2017, Beijing Film Academy, Department of Directing, the first Japanese undergraduate student.
In 2019, at the age of 20, directed, wrote, edited and music for the virtual space and real-world sci-fi romance film "WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE", which was nominated for the student section of the ARFF Amsterdam International Film Festival. The next year, the mental health film "The Sound of Stars" won top awards in the student categories in India, Amsterdam and the UK (London Independent Film Awards) and got a great attention, and was praised by Director Masayuki Suo ("Fancy Dance", "Shall We Dance?"), a special guest lecturer at the Academy, who called him "a promising star of Japan".
In 2022, as a first-time cinematographer, he directed Whirlwind, a drama about life in the countryside of his hometown of Kagoshima, for which he got high praise as a cinematographer.
He graduated from the academy in 2022. "Passage", an experimental first feature film, is now in production. ARRI, a worldwide equipment company, liked his project, saying he was a 'very unique Japanese' and offered him equipment free of fee as an up-and-coming young filmmaker.
He has been covered by various media in Japan and is one of the most talked about directors today.

In 2021, he was sponsored by ARRI to direct his first feature film, "Passage". Shot entirely in Japan, the film is extremely beautifully filmed and offers a taste of Japan's "wabi-sabi" culture.
