Experiencing Interruptions?

Variations for light and shadow

A nocturnal and solitary encounter with nature, this video was made in the form of a single shot-sequence where the camera is stationary while a mobile light source reveals the environment through its play of light and shadow.

Director Biography - Olivier Perriquet

With a special affinity for visual perception and optics and privileging a site specific approach, Olivier Perriquet has been practicing live cinema and installation for twenty years, often in collaboration with sound artists and musicians. Be it expanded cinema or video, installations and performances, his work frequently and implicitly refers to the scientific imagination and its language. In line with media archaeology, taking up Flusser's idea of "playing against the apparatus", he crosses disciplines until one can no longer distinguish which media produces which form, he uses the informe (formless), noise, the emergence of form, recognition of a ground within a form, as means of access to the ineffable in us.

Alongside his artistic practice, he carries out eclectic and transdisciplinary research. A graduate of Le Fresnoy, National Studio of Contemporary Arts and a Doctor of computational biology after a curriculum in pure maths, he has worked for several years as a researcher in artificial intelligence at the University of Lisbon and was subsequently invited as a Fulbright fellow to Duke University's Department of Art and Visual Studies. For the past ten years, he has been a Professor of visual arts at the Media/Arts school of Chalon-sur-Saône in France and supervizes research at Le Fresnoy where he has led several research programmes.
