Typecast or (The Rise And Fall Of Boingman)
In this outrageously dark indie comedy, “Clyde Cuddley” is a small town movie theater employee with big dreams: to move to Hollywood and become an actor! However, his first few weeks in Los Angeles are anything but glamorous. Working sporadically as a bottom-feeding background actor and suffering one humiliation after another, Clyde is pressured to join a mysterious new acting school that guarantees its students fame and fortune. In the end, as he loses his morals and gains the world, Clyde discovers that his incredible rise is destined for an equally dramatic fall.

Mike Critelli is a multimedia storyteller living on California’s Central Coast. His debut film was From The Rough, starring Taraji P. Henson and Tom Felton, a family sports drama which he wrote and co-produced. He was also proud to be the editor for the feature-length documentary Livin’ Like Ribich. Critelli has experience as a network TV broadcaster (inaugural winner of Fred Roggin’s “The Choice”), radio personality (weekly on 91.9 KCSB-FM in Santa Barbara), and author (Lemons and Ladybugs, A Memoir; a #1 Amazon Bestseller in Grief & Loss). Typecast or (The Rise And Fall Of Boingman) marks his debut as a feature film Director.
"Typecast or (The Rise And Fall Of Boingman)" is a collaboration with two of my oldest friends in entertainment: Clem Darling, who I met in college over fifteen years ago when we were hungry aspiring screenwriters, and cinematographer Brandon Kelly, who has brought a steady technical hand to all of my short film shoots for over a decade. Alongside my wife, Jill, an Arts Center College of Design gradudate, with support from family and friends in our new home base of Goleta, CA -- plus an oustanding cast of lesser-known but no less talented actors -- we managed to concoct a smart, savage satire of modern Hollywood in matter of months.
This film was conceived and created during a scary time for the future of the film industry. It felt vital to shine a light on the deeper issues of power, greed, and ambition –- and make it funny –- as we all regroup and attempt to build a kinder, more equitable future.
With a shoestring budget but a ton of ingenuity behind its execution, we hope that Typecast or (The Rise And Fall Of Boingman) has the opportunity to find its audience and make a splash with film-lovers far and wide.
