Director Statement

My personal interest in refugee stories developed when, in 2019, when we had an opportunity to work on a project with an asylum seeker named Farhad Bandesh. We produced a music video for him while he was still in detention on Manus Island, and have remained friends since.

Through Farhad, we met Mohammad Imran, who was also detained on Manus.

We collaborated with Mohammad and the refugee organisation Refugee Voices to tell his story, in his own words.

My desire is to contribute to the record that will be kept of this shameful period in Australia’s history, and to use what talents I and my collaborators have to strengthen a platform for refugees like Mohammad, who continue to fight for the fundamental rights of the asylum seekers still suffering in detention.
