Remembered Things

In the heart of Western Sicily, in the magnificent and enchanting landscape of the Belìce Valley, there are - still - ruins of old abandoned towns destroyed by the earthquake in the Belìce Valley, 1968. Glimpses of an evocative and disturbing remote past.
Those ruins and debris can be considered as Land Art artworks, which are ineluctably disintegrating until they slowly disappear over time, according to the will of the artist Mother Nature.
If considered as artworks, they, therefore, lack a plaque and a brief description to make us understand them and their hidden messages.
I have asked the local people who are connected and related to those ruins to give their feelings, memories, and stories to those ruins, and make them "talk". Vito, Michele, Caterina, Pasquale, Maria, Biagio... Each one of them did it in his own way: someone with a photo of his fellow villagers on the old steps survived to the destruction; other ones with a poem read inside the ruins of a house with no roof; a song sung in a ghost town slowly becoming a rubbish dump; a silent meal inside a spectral and fragile house; stories of miracles told in a cathedral that is a church no more... Ancient stories of a world almost disappeared, in space and time...
