The Garbage Man

The Garbage Man’ is a dystopian drama short film, depicting the main protagonist Andi, a warm and loving 30-year old garbage man who has turned to become a sinister and intoxicated character after his possession of a chip that has completely transformed his life, goals and morals.Pursuing success is natural of us. However, looking up without looking down while climbing makes us recklessly forget something essential in life. Our roots. Which is our identity, our family and our beliefs. Sooner or later, this part of ourselves fades away as we are obsessed with being at the top. Being someone different. Therefore, defining success requires reflection as one will never stop seeking for it to fill the hole in his/her heart.

Director Biography - Amirul Bin Hairullizan

Amirul Bin Hairullizan known as ‘Amirul Sibarani’ born in Singapore (31 July 2003, 19 years
old) is a Singaporean filmmaker and director, noted for his vision on inspiring others to become a
better version of themselves through his works and his iconic style of reflective artwork. Graduated from Bartley Secondary School where his interest in language and arts developed as he participated in Malay performing arts called ‘Dikir Barat’. He then joined Lasalle College Of The Arts, one of the renowned art schools in Singapore where he began his education journey in arts and fell in love with film as his mission towards his vision. Amirul’s first film is an experimental short film called ‘We’ll meet someday’ where he expresses his thoughts and feelings about distance in friendship, creating awareness on how valuable the bond of friendship is. Amirul’s impactful experimental work is relating to identity called ‘identity and society’ which then reflects on self. Amirul’s first big project that he directed is a narrative short film called ‘The Garbage Man’ as he aims to raise awareness in society about the competitive and obsessive world we are living, resulting in us forgetting about our own sense of self.
