The Birthday Present

The class has already begun but Minsu is not in a hurry. Hyeong Cheol who got divorced many years ago brings a birthday present to his son Hoon but he does not know how his son looks like. Minsu gets excited to give the birthday present with Hyeong Cheol, so he decides to look for Hoon who didn’t come to school. Hyeong Cheol gladly accepts the help but starts to doubt Minsu as they go along. A strange trip of ‘friend’s father’ and ‘son’s friend’ begins. Will they end up finding Hoon?

Director Biography - Mijee Kim

Born in South Korea in 1982. Graduated from Sangmyung University, majoring in Film. Mastered a course in Department of Imaging science and arts from Chung-Ang University. <The Birthday Present> is a graduation film from the graduate program. Currently working in South Korea as a script supervisor in Film and TV drama field while preparing to write a master’s thesis and scenario for featured film.

Director Statement

Some experiences as a teenager are so intense that it comes into mind from time to time. Everyone probably has one of these memories; Strong and glorious, yet cruel moments. The movie shows a ‘birthday’ of an 11 years-old boy that’s quite special.
