Born and raised in New York City, Alexander Hagani has continued his career and craft in London, United Kingdom. His goal is to tell universal stories inspired by his own life.
In 2015, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Alexander created, "Boys to Men," a local television-series which spanned four years, five full-length episodes, and two university-recognized awards for "Excellence in Film Studies."
In 2017, in Sydney, Australia, Alexander wrote, directed, and produced his first short film, "Refuge Island,"- his commentary on the American political climate as he traveled around the world. The film went on to tour the festival circuit in Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and London.
Currently, he is studying to receive his MA in Filmmaking at the London Film School, where he has directed three different shorts and produced two other projects. During the making of his penultimate short at LFS, Alexander worked with British stage and screen actor, Adrian McLoughlin (known for "The Death of Stalin," and "After Life") for his film, "Terry."
Loosely based on a time where I witnessed my great-grandfather watch his wife, of 70 years, pass away, I wanted to create a story about loss and the unexpected moments of chance that help us move on.
This short was made on a student budget of £2,000. With that money, we were required to build a set and create an 11-minute film. The hospital room, and most of everything inside of it, was hand-crafted by our excellent design team, all cast and crew did the job for free, and we pulled in many favours to gain access to exterior hospital locations.
'Terry' was made with a lot of heart, and I hope it resonates with you long after you watch it.
With thanks and gratitude,
Alexander
