This film was inspired by Dante Alighieri. Charon has a rough job. What is it like for him and how can we tell his story in a modern way?
Symbolic elements of the Divine Comedy fill this the movie. The bobble head Jesus provids a light comic reference to Christianity, “Abandon all hope yea who enter here” written on the head rest. the payment on the phone of two coins, Charon’s dirty, tired appearance, The suicide being taken to a forest and attacked by harpies. Lastly we just have Charon standing alone at the end trying to understand the meaning of it all. And the never ending, repetitive nature of his task.
