Director Biography - Blake RIce

Blake Winston Rice is an award-winning director and screenwriter whose work has been screened and distributed globally.

Blake’s official directorial and screenwriter debut was with the short dramatic film entitled, “To Whom it May Concern” (2016). His next project forwarded his career by winning Best Director (New York City Independent Film Festival, 2019) for the melodrama, “People Like You” (2019). Both films recently acquired distribution on Direct TV, AT&T, Comcast and many more.

In 2020, Blake continued his directorial career with the lauded “The Creeper's Curse” (2019), “The Recovery Call” (2020), and Television Pilot “Big Dumb Theory” (2020).

As well as directing, Blake has recently lent his producing skills to the dramatic film, “A Certain Kind of Person” and the dramatic thriller, “Elle.”

Blake has the knack for directing and writing in multiple genres – from laugh out loud comedies to suspenseful thrillers. As a screenwriter Blake’s current projects are the comedy thriller “Special Days”, “The Girl Who Ventured West, A Johnny Appleseed Story” (Finalist: Hollywood Screenplay Competition), “Movie Magic” (Finalist: Houston Comedy Festival), “Special Days” (Semi Finalist: Dallas Int. Film Festival), and “Sawdust” - a drama filming November 2021.

As an actor and model working in commercials, he eventually transitioning to Television and Film after college, Blake has also performed Stand Up Comedy - headlining such venues as The Broadway Comedy Club, Triad Theater, Metropolitan Room and Hard Rock Café. Represented by Take 3 Talent for his on-camera work, you can see Blake on the screen as "Josh McCockan" in the 2020 comedic series, “Entitled” (RPS Productions).

Born on November 16, 1989 in Vorhees, New Jersey, raised in Moorestown New Jersey, Blake is one of four siblings (Porter, Barbara, Dean Rice), parents Harry and Victoria Rice. He currently resides in New York City, hobbies include fantasy football, grilling, pickup basketball, and a shameful amount of magic the gathering.

Director Statement

How do you move on from a relationship so rooted in who you are, It comprises the bedrock of your being? What if there was one final chance to say everything you’ve wish you’ve said to the person that walked out the door? In “Steps", our characters confront this opportunity head on. We meet Kate & Cooper, several years estranged, tying off the remaining loose end of their relationship, with an old promise to each other - in which they leave their guard on the side of an above-ground pool, diving head first into what made them come together, and eventually split apart.
