Steffen Thomas: Rock & Chisel

A look at the life of Steffen Thomas, the Bavarian-born artist behind some of the South’s most strident artwork. Known for busts and monuments early in his career, Thomas went on to create a prodigious amount of work in various media. His Trilon sculpture is an Atlanta landmark. With a trove of archival footage, Rock & Chisel spotlights the complicated facets of this one-of-a-kind artist.

Director Biography - Jesse Stephen Freeman

Jesse Stephen Freeman is the founder of Milk Crate Films. From 2002 until 2010 he was based in Atlanta, Georgia, and appeared on various Georgia Public Broadcasting programs, including Lawmakers and Prep Sports Plus.

He also hosted Cover to Cover, a literary talk show on GPB Radio highlighting Southern writers. In 2010 he was nominated for an Emmy for Somebody Else, Somewhere Else: The Raymond Andrews Story, a documentary film he wrote and directed.

His most recent film, Steffen Thomas: Rock & Chisel, debuted on Georgia Public Broadcasting on February 13 of this year.
