Director Statement

Sink is extremely personal to me. As a bipolar artist, Audrey's story is my story. I relate to her deeply. Jonah Crane is my son in real life, so there is a lot of emotion packed into this piece for me. This piece is about the raw truth of mental illness and the difficult situations in which care-givers are placed. The awkwardness of a child parenting his mother. The pain of a partner who cannot continue to live in the chaos. All of these are real situations. Feeling like you are better and you no longer need to take your meds... Sink is about a journey for a mother and son, but it is also a window into the life of many who struggle daily with mental illness and those who give things up in order to love them. Is unconditional love real? Is it important? Can you love someone unconditionally and still be true to yourself?
